N/A

In the early years of our country, particularly in the western states, the man who crafted furniture was also the one who built coffins and served as the undertaker for the small towns surrounding the railroads, mines and logging operations. He had the tools and skills necessary to provide what was necessary for resting one’s body at the end of the day, so to speak!

The Franke Furniture and Coffin Shop was originally a cooperage, producing barrels, kegs and vats for a variety of uses. However, its biggest customer, a local brewery, fell on hard times and went out of business. Whereupon, David Franke, descendent of a long line of carpenters and furniture designers, moved his business from a store front into the more spacious cooperage building and now produces fine furniture and caskets.

The Design:

A Furniture and Coffin Shop is just one of the many possibilities that this structure could be built as.

Many modelers have built this as a machine shop, a logging building, mining building, trackside warehouse, cooperage, and many more! See out the Wild West Gallery page for ideas!
